Understanding stages when starting a business.

So Many of my clients have been asking me how to manage the doubtful feeling they experience whilst they are working to start their own business. These feelings can also lead to anxiety and panic attacks, which is also what many of my clients have experienced.

I listened to a podcast over the weekend by ‘Jay Shetty’. He speaks on 5 different stages one experiences when starting a business.

My understanding of what he shared was that the fear and anxiety is always at the start of any process. Growth is far less of one thing and more of a series of phase’s, stages and levels.

We need to improve our ability to diagnose what stage and level we’re in and work on those. If everything is going right we become complacent and if everything is going wrong we can become depressed.

There are 5 Stages:

Learn: Learning is a way of life, we can become so powerful with knowledge, however, it is how we use that knowledge which is the real power. Become a master in the area you have chosen, with that the confidence will increase.

Experiment: When we start a new venture we feel a sense of embarrassment and fear of judgement. However, if we understand that we are merely experimenting we will eliminate that sense of fear and embrace the judgement. This is also a learning process. In any venture you chose… have fun with it, experiment and make appropriate changes for the next stage.

Perform: This is the stage people often skip to… I also experienced this… but I learned a great lesson. At this stage you have learned and experimented and have enough experience and confidence to now begin the process of performing in your craft. You begin to see results and consistency. However, the next stage is never eliminated.

Struggle: This stage is present throughout the journey. It is important to understand the struggle and not avoid it. It is important to embrace the struggle and learn from it. Although, try not to speak negatively about struggle as everything we speak on becomes our reality. All we need to understand is that, it exists and work accordingly.

Thrive: This feeling is what I learnt to be 1% of the experience. The moment can be short lived and the process will start again as we tend to be forever learning and experimenting. I believe thrive to be the achievement in that moment and then it is time to continue to work on the next.

Although we always want to be in thrive mode, it is important to go through each stage and embrace the journey.
